May 6th 2013, just three months after being airlifted off Camaderry mountain, Mark was ready to make his return to the Wicklow mountains.
Six of us, Mark, Niamh, Carma, Thomas, Lydia and myself met at the Visitors Centre car park in Glengalough around 10am. It was great to meet up with Thomas and Niamh again as we had not seen them since shortly after our return from Africa.
We were soon on our way and all ready to match Mark's pace to ensure he would achieve his objective and complete this first challenge since his recent setback.
Looking good Mark. Taking a breather after our first incline. I think we were all glad to take a few minutes out and using Mark as an excuse to stop : )
What a beautiful day for a hike.Niamh told us we would be taking on The Spinc, Lugduff and Mullacor.
Our group were not used to such good weather. Most of our training for Kili was done in the winter of 2012. Each time we took to the mountains, be it by day or night, we had to hike in dreadful conditions. Rain, snow, wind, biting cold. Not today, on this occasion the sun was shining and we could see in every direction.
Mark chatting with a couple of volunteers and observing a stranded mountain goat. I'm sure the goat was fine but we did not stay around to witness his rescue.
We walked for about five hours. The pace was easy with no real difficult inclines.
Mark enjoying his moment on the summit and pointing to the absence of a helicopter, this time.
Despite the easy hike I was wrecked by the time I got home and spent the evening relaxing in front of the telly'
Thanks to Lydia for some of the pics. You can see our photos by clicking on Flicker Images below.
