A View of the Mourne Mountains from Carlingford

I travelled, with Tim and Joe, to Carlingford on May 12th to meet up with some of Tim's hiking group. The plan included hiking Tain way, Slieve Foye, Eagles Rock, Tain Way and then back to Carlingford.

We met up around 10:30 and set off shortly after introductions and final preparations.  I was Introduced to Niamh, Tom, Frank, Padraig and Mike.
Joe and his new knee make it all the way : )

This was Joe's first time back on the mountains since having one knee replaced. He was setting out to see how the knee held up and was optimistic about getting to the top of Slieve Foye.

Joe, under the watchful eyes of Tim

A big congratulations to Joe who went all the way to the top as you can see in the images above. He then returned by the same route with Tim while the rest of us completed the planned hike.
Jack, unable to offer a watchful eye to Joe, glasses all fogged up. Using contact lenses next time.

Conditions on the mountain were fairly bad but Tom led us through the bad weather and safely to our destination.
Sheltered and taking a short break

This group are very experienced hikers/climbers and while I felt well able to keep up with them on the ascent   I was much slower on the descent. They are so surefooted, moving down the mountain swiftly and so at ease. I find descent more difficult and tend to pick my steps carefully. Even taking care I will always fall a few times but I still love it : )
