On the summit of Mullaghcleevaun with Tonelagee on the left and Lugnaquilla right of centre in the distance

Tim called me on Thursday and asked me if I would like to go for a hike on Friday. He needed to clear his head as I had done the day before on Camaderry.

We met in the Liffey Valley car park and drove to the base of Sorrel Hill. The weather was fantastic, Tim knows how to pick them. It was a complete contrast to my outing on Wednesday.

We set off along the trail and reached the top of Black Hill before too long. From there we headed towards Mullaghcleevaun.

We took a break at the summit of Mullaghcleevaun. There was a light breeze and the sun was just fabulous.

We continued on to the summit of Mullaghcleevaun East. Tim had not been on this particular hike for a couple of years and was amazed at the level of erosion all across the mountains.

As we looped back we were delighted to discover areas still covered in snow. Tim is just a big kid : ) and wanted to build a snowman (only joking) We also took in Cleevaun Lough before heading towards the forest area.

We were out for about six hours in beautiful weather. The rain forecast for early afternoon never materialised.
