I will be leaving my return trip to Kilimanjaro until 2014 when I hope to be joined by some of the December 2012 Kili Team.
Apart from making progress with some of the smaller items on my Bucket List I also need one major item to achieve in 2013. I have decided to walk the pilgrim route Camino Frances starting out early September. Setting off from St Jean Pied-De-Port in France and ending in Santiago de Compostele in the north western region of Spain. The walk is almost 800Km long. Many people go back time after time to undertake separate parts of the walk until they have completed the entire journey. Other complete the journey in one extended holiday/pilgrimage/journey of discovery and for many other personal reasons. You may walk, cycle or go on horseback. Most people walk it.
Right now I intend to travel alone to achieve the full benefits of my journey of discovery. While some people can complete the route in 3 to 4 weeks I will be taking my time. I don't believe I could do it that fast anyway taking everything into consideration. I wish to take my time, enjoy the journey and stop off in any village, town or city if it feels right. I will have my camera with me to record my journey and ultimately place that record on this blog.
I will not avail of baggage transfers, everything I need will be in my backpack. I hope to stay in the pilgrim hostels along the way. While I am looking forward to being alone with my thoughts I am also excited about meeting strangers and learning something about their motivation for undertaking the walk. One that ends in the Cathedral where, according to legend lie the remains of the apostle St James the Great.
There are so many videos and pictures recording the achievements of others who have completed all or part of the Camino Frances and other routes. Have a look here for some of the videos.: http://www.elcaminosantiago.com/Camino-Santiago-Video.htm
